The Greek philosopher Heraclitus (c. 500 BCE) is credited with saying, among other quotable expressions, that “The only thing constant is change.” The spring season reminds us how changeable our environment is with changing weather, growing flowers, budding trees, nesting birds, newborn animals, and pollen, pollen everywhere. Change is in the air, in our lives, and in our workplaces.
Promise Law is pleased to announce that we are changing our approach to estate planning to better inform our clients and prospective clients on their options. We are beginning a series of twice-a-month free estate planning workshops, called “The 7 Hazards to Your Estate Plan,” where we present estate planning concepts through relatable and illustrative stories. We debuted the workshop in Hampton this week. The workshops in May are scheduled as follows:
Thursday, May 9, 2019
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Malvin Riggins
725 City Center Boulevard, Suite 200
Newport News, VA 23606
Tuesday, May 28, 2019
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Old Point National Bank
101 E. Queen Street
Hampton, VA 23669
Our goal with the workshops is to present how an estate plan interacts with lifetime events and circumstances so that each workshop attendee can comfortably and confidently design a personalized estate plan that reflects his individual or family values and goals. Following the workshop, each attendee can schedule a no-charge follow up meeting with an attorney to evaluate her current estate planning documents (if any) to see how they support her vision and to discuss various planning options to achieve her goals.
Workshops are appropriate for people who already have estate planning documents as well as those who do not because estate plans should be reviewed periodically to ensure that they meet current goals and family circumstances. Heraclitus, who was wise about how life changes, is also credited with saying, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
Even as we roll out our workshop approach to estate planning, we will retain the option to meet with an attorney without first attending a workshop and pay the regular consultation rate for the meeting.
To register for a workshop or to schedule a consultation appointment to discuss your estate planning, estate administration, long term care planning, or guardianship/conservatorship needs, please call us at (757) 279-8127.
