Our Probate Workshop Is Not Currently Offered

At this time, Promise Law is not holding a live Probate & Administration Workshop. We know this is already a hard season, and it can be discouraging to reach what feels like a dead end when you were hoping for help. Our free guide is meant to give you some gentle, practical direction. And the good news is you don’t have to wait for a workshop to start getting some answers!

When someone dies, it’s common to feel overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. You may be asking:

  • Do I have to go to court?
  • What happens to bank accounts and other assets?
  • What bills should I pay—and when?
  • What if there isn’t enough money to cover everything?

Our Guidance After the Death of a Loved One booklet was created to give you guideposts and help you take things one step at a time. It walks you through what to focus on in the days, weeks, and months after a death, including:

  • What to do immediately after the death and in the first two weeks
  • Tasks to consider from two weeks to one month and one to two months after the death
  • What to expect over the two to eighteen months it can take to fully administer an estate
  • Common “quicksand” mistakes that can create personal liability or extra stress for an executor or family member

You can download it instantly and read it at your own pace, from the privacy of your home.

What This Guide Will and Won’t Do

This booklet is designed to:

  • Help you understand the overall process after a death
  • Give you a sense of timing and priorities
  • Highlight risks and responsibilities for executors and family members
  • Help you decide when it’s time to talk with an attorney

It is not a substitute for personalized legal advice. Every estate is different, and details like how assets are titled, whether there is a Will or Trust, and the amount of debt can all change what needs to be done and when.

For that reason, we strongly encourage you not to “raise your hand” as executor or trustee, or start filing court paperwork, until you’ve had a chance to understand your options.

When You’re Ready for Personal Help

Even with a clear guide, every estate is unique. The type of assets, how they were owned, and the family situation all affect whether probate is required and what your options are.

If you have had a loved one die and you don’t know what you are supposed to do, you can call our office at 757‑690‑2470. We will help you identify the key information needed to decide on next steps and whether formal administration is required for your situation.

Our team can:

  • Explain your role and responsibilities in plain English
  • Help you avoid unnecessary court processes when possible
  • Support you in completing required tasks the right way and on time
